Experiential Design, Facilitation & Leadership Capacity Building Journey

This years course focused upon developing capacities as co-designers, facilitators, maverick artist change-leaders and conductors of systemic change. Through rapid prototyping, collaborative leadership practice, equine assisted relational horsemanship, 7-day learning journey across Arizona, strategic sustainability and "Social Lab" style approaches to developing systemic leadership skills students put their learning into practice by co-created a 40 acre collaborative design project prototype for the Windsong Peace & Leadership Center in Patagonia Arizona. This years design project included student directed:
  • Researching and developing a sense of place//ecology/culture/economy of the borderlands
  • Articulating a vision for the leadership center and the wider borderlands region based upon the learning journey and interviews
  • Developing a Permaculture ethic-based Venn diagram and prototype systems dynamics causal loop diagrams
  • Co-creating a borderlands overview Permaculture map
  • Co-designing  Windsong Leadership Center Permaculture design
  • Personal reflection
  • Creating a shared collaborative design portfolio

Learning journey sites: Juniper Well Ranch, Arcosanti, Windsong Peace and Leadership Center, Deep Dirt Farm, Wildlife Corridor, Town of Patagonia, Borderlands Restoration Nursery and Seed Lab, Gary Nabhan's/Native Seed Search, Canelo Project, Mexicayotl Academy, The U.S-Mexico Border wall, Nogales Mercado, The Ecosa Institute, and Prescott College.
